Your story is personal, and it is yours to share. Whether you’ve written a memoir or a magazine article, a self-help book or a novel, completing a piece of writing is an incredible accomplishment that takes determination and discipline. Now, before you put your hard work out there for all to see, you want to make sure your writing is the best it can be.
For many writers, handing over their hard work to an editor can be a difficult task. The connection between an editor and a writer is an important one and the relationship has to feel right. That is why my approach to editing involves mutual respect and collaboration. I am committed to respecting your personal style and voice, while also providing open communication with you.
I provide services for both fiction and non-fiction works, though I specialize in editing memoirs and other creative non-fiction. Works can include memoirs, self-help books, biographies, lifestyle pieces, magazine articles, or novels.
I offer the following services to authors:
Stylistic Editing and Copy Editing
I combine stylistic editing and copy editing into a single form of editing, as there is often overlap between the two types. However, if you prefer one type of editing in particular I can quote on the services separately. My feedback will be thoughtful, detail-oriented, encouraging, and constructive. If you've entrusted me with editing your work, my goal will always be to make your writing as clear and compelling as possible.
Proofreading
I provide a final read-through of your work and correct any residual errors or issues in layout. This step should ideally be done by someone who has not edited the work previously.
Pricing
Rates are determined on a project by project basis. Many factors influence the rates of my editing services, including the length of the manuscript, how soon you need it back, and what level of editing service you require.
I ask you to provide a brief description of your writing and I will talk to you about what your goals are, who your audience is, and what your timeline for completion looks like.
For manuscripts, I ask to see approximately 1,000 words of your work so I can complete a sample edit. The sample edit allows you to review my editing style and determine if my services will be a good fit for you, while also allowing me to give you an accurate quote and timeframe for the project. I can also provide options to accommodate varying budget levels.
